The Joe Spooner Cup Coundon Court lifts the Spooner Cup Rugby Town Juniors lifts the Plate
The 4th Joe Spooner Cup Competiton was held by Rugby Town JFC last Sunday and a great day was had by all. 16 teams from across the Midlands competed in a 9 v 9 format as directed by the FA Youth programme to be implemented in season 2013/14.
Group A winners were Coventry Sphinx with Leamington Brakes going through with them.
Rugby Town Juniors and Hawksmill Eagles slipped into the Plate quarters with them finishing in the bottom two of the group
Group B was taken by Brinklow who amassed 13 goals and only conceding 1 with the runners up slot going to Leamington Hibs.
Rugby Town Colts and Banbury going through to the plate quarters
Group C was won by Coundon Court with Coventry Copeswood securing the runners up slot
Chapelfield Colts and Hawsmill FC going into the Plate quarters
Group D was won by Binley Woods with Coventry Massey going through as runners up
Rugby Town Colts and Coventry Sphinx Blue going through to the plate
The quarter Finals of the Spooner Cup had some terrific games Coventry Sphinx Brinklow, Binley Woods and Coundon Court edging out Coventry Massey Coventry Copeswood Lamington Brakes, and Leamington Hibs respectfully
The Plate quarters provide 4 entertaining games with Rugby Town colts being 3 down at one point coming back to win 43 against Hawksmill Eagles with Rugby Town Juniors Chapelfiels Colts and Banbury also going through to the Semis
The Semis of the Spooner were both tight affairs with Brinklow edging out Coventry Sphinx 2-0 and Coundon Court doing the same to Binley Woods
The Semi Finals of the plate then took stage with Rugby Town Juniors beating Banbury 3-1 but it was not to be an all Rugby final as Chapelfield Colts beat Rugby Town Colts 5-3 on penalties.
The Final of the Spooner cup was a glorious advert for U11 football but Coundon had that extra bit of quality to win the Spooner cup courtesy of a 1-0 victory over gallant Brinklow.
The Plate final was taken by Rugby Town Juniors beating Chapelfield Colts 3-2
A great day was had by all the club would like to thank the volunteer grounds men for getting the pitches ready on time and the Referees for turning up and doing a tremendous job.
The club raised £87.00 which will be topped up to £100 and presented to Tracy and Steve Spooner for their chosen charity SADS
